Sage

Sage is native to Italy and the western part of the Balkan Peninsula. It has been widely used in folk medicine around the world. Sage contains alkaloids, carbohydrates, fatty acids, glycosidic derivatives, phenolic compounds, polyacetylenes, steroids, terpenes/terpenoids, and waxes. Sage oil contains mainly borneol, camphor, caryophyllene, cineole, elemene, humulene, ledene, pinene, and thujone. The most abounding carbohydrates are arabinose, galactose, glucose, mannose, xylose, uronic acids, and rhamnose. Sage has a high concentration of linalool, which has been found to reduce cortisol.

Sage may be beneficial for sore throat, cancer, memory, seizures, ulcers, gout, rheumatism, asthma, inflammation, dizziness, tremor, paralysis, appetite, diarrhea, digestion, menopause, sunburn, and hyperglycemia.
