Oyster mushroom is widespread in many temperate and subtropical forests throughout the world. First cultivated in Germany during World War I, it became one of the most cultivated edible mushrooms around the globe. It is rich in protein, fiber, and several vitamins and minerals such as niacin, Vitamin D, and iron.

Oyster mushroom contains various bioactive compounds such as β-glucans and phenolics. Its polysaccharide lovastatin is used as a cholesterol-lowering drug. It also contains several peptides that might lower blood pressure.

Oyster mushroom may be beneficial for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, lowering the risk of heart diseases, bone strength, cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and boosting the immune system.
