Blueberry is native to northern areas of Europe and Asia. It contains powerful flavonoid antioxidant anthocyanins, vitamin C and phenolic acids. It has been used for food and medicine for centuries, and in World War II, British pilots ate blueberry jam, believing it would improve their night vision.

Blueberry may be beneficial for night vision, cataracts, varicose veins, atherosclerosis, diarrhea, inflammation of the mouth, urinary problems, and diabetes. It may also be beneficial for the prevention of scurvy, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia.
