Auricularia is a wood-decaying fungus that lives in temperate and subtropical regions worldwide, usually found in clusters. It is the fourth largest cultivated mushroom species in the world. It has been used in traditional Chinese medicine and as a healthy food rich in vitamin B5 and copper.

Auricularia’s main functional components are polysaccharides. The polysaccharides from this mushroom contain mainly mannose, glucose, glucuronic acid, and xylose. Scientists found that Auricularia’s anticoagulant activity is similar to that of aspirin.

Auricularia may be beneficial for anemia, blood vomiting, uterine bleeding, hemorrhoids, high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, and cancer.
