Alfalfa originates from Asia Minor, Iran, and the dry highlands of Turkmenistan, but it is grown around the world. It is widely recognized as the oldest forage plant. It has a ‘crown’ — a toughened top portion of the root capable of generating multiple foliar regrowths through new bud formation. This feature enables it to be harvested up to 12 times per year. It contains vitamins A, C, E, and K, minerals calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and iron, and bioactive compounds like saponins, coumarins, flavonoids, and phytosterols.

Alfalfa may be used as a diuretic, for boosting metabolism, lowering cholesterol levels, controlling blood sugar levels, relieving joint pains, and easing menopausal symptoms.
