Malabar tamarind is native to Southeast Asia. It is used as a food preservative, carminative, and flavoring agent. Malabar tamarind contains flavonoids like xanthones, benzophenones, and hydroxycitric acid (HCA) — studied for its effect on appetite.
Malabar tamarind may be beneficial for obesity and weight loss, high cholesterol, blood sugar levels, ulcers, hemorrhoids, diarrhea, dysentery, anxiety, depression, and leukemia.
