Griffonia

(Griffonia simplicifolia)

Other names: Schotia simplicifolia, Bandeiraea simplicifolia Benth.

Griffonia is native to the western parts of Africa. Griffonia seeds contain unsaturated and saturated fatty acids, and its most beneficial compound is 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP). 5-HTP is a direct precursor and enhancer of the activity of the brain hormone serotonin.

Griffonia may be beneficial for depression, anxiety, weight loss, headaches, and insomnia.
