Grapefruit is a hybrid and probably originates from a natural cross-hybridization between pummelo and sweet orange. There are white and pigmented varieties. The main components of grapefruit are the flavanones narirutin and naringin and their aglycone naringenin. Grapefruit seed contain flavonoids such as naringenin, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), tocopherols, citric acid, limonoids, and sterols.

Grapefruit seed may be beneficial for acne, allergies, athlete’s foot, colds, cold sores, eczema, gingivitis, sore throat, vaginal infection, nail fungus, and candida.
