The açaí palm (Euterpe oleracea) is native to Amazon. Its small, black-purple edible fruit has recently become popular due to its antioxidant potential. The pulps contain the most potent combination of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory polyphenolics and flavonoids of all fruit species. Flavones in the pulp include velutin, the most potent anti-inflammatory flavonoid found in nature.

Açaí may be beneficial against oxidative stress and inflammation in preventing age-related brain diseases, for reducing the risk of heart attacks, as an anti-cancer agent, for athletes performances, against high cholesterol, obesity, aging skin, and erectile dysfunction.
